Nina Sumarac

Nina Šumarac is a Serbian-Cypriot intermedia artist based in Limassol. Her practice is an ongoing inquiry into how reality is perceived, constructed, and mediated, approached through a biopolitical, social, and environmental lens. Moving between the precision of fact and the fluidity of intuition, she treats information as a living process shaped by systems and context, and engages data as a performative material to reveal the tension between the visible and the unseen. Her projects have addressed lithium extraction (White K), Ai and the politics of forgiveness in post-conflict capitalism (METANOIA), and the symbiotic relationship between humans and trees (I'll See You in the Trees). Across them, the intimate and the universal mirror one another, challenging baseline assumptions and opening a speculative space for alternative ways of perceiving. Šumarac is an award-winning artist. Her project presentations have been supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus, and her works are held in the permanent collection of the State Gallery of Contemporary Art, Cyprus. Šumarac’s technical foundation began at the Polytechnic University for New Technologies in New Belgrade, where she studied mechanical engineering and computer numerical control (CNC) systems. Her work has been exhibited at venues including the CICA Museum (South Korea), Winona State University (USA), NeMe Arts Centre (Limassol), the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, ALP MoCA Bacini dell'Arsenale Nord (Venice), and the Leopoldo Gotuzzo Art Museum (Brazil). Further participations include fu:bar (Zagreb), Biennial Technology (Turin), the Autonomous University of Mexico State UAEMEX, Stuttgart Film Festival, Schafhof Art Forum Freising, and three pavilions of the 6th Wrong Biennale.
