"Cryptic Lineages: Coaxing the Signal" is an artist book by Laura Splan reflecting on her time with Open Fung as Artist-in-Research. As a creative sketchbook of sorts, it offers insights into the studio experimentation, scientific research, materials tests, and creative projects produced in the process. Its pages include images and texts, both original and found. The contents are divided into chapters or “hyphae” including a psychedelic “intermission” to be viewed with 3D glasses. Each chapter represents a distinct area of research that developed during her residency through conversation, collaboration, experimentation, ideation, and speculation with Open Fung.
